God is knowable! He has made himself known and he desires that we know him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3 Knowing God is not merely knowing about him, it is knowing him in a personal relationship. The problem that we have is that there is a barrier that prevents us from knowing him. The Bible calls this obstacle "sin". Sin has affected our ability to think rightly about God, and to act perfectly right in the way that he requires. For although they knew God, [that there is a God] they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
