To know God and his life we must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he is the one that God has appointed to be our substitute and Savior. To believe in Jesus means to acknowledge that what the Bible says about him is true, and to place all of our confidence in Jesus alone as the sole means of knowing God.

  1. Admit your need (I cannot please God by myself)
  2. Turn from your imperfect ways of thinking and behaving [the Bible calls this repentance]
  3. Believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he is the one that God appointed to be your Savior, and his substitutionary death and resurrection are acceptable to God as the basis of your renewed relationship to God.
  4. Through prayer communicate your faith to God.

If you would like to pray but are unsure of what to say to God, here is a model prayer:

Dear God, I want to know you, but I confess that I am a sinner and in need of forgiveness. I put all of my trust in Jesus as the Son of God and my Savior. Through him, I come to you. I take you at your word, that when I put my confidence in Jesus, I have the right to be a part of your family.

Did you sincerely pray this prayer, or one like it?

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord [Jesus] will be saved. Romans 10:13

In trusting Christ personally, you were born into God's family through a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. The Bible describes this as a "new birth". You received God's gift of a wonderful, eternal new life in Christ. You have begun to know God.
